Ag Advisory Board Role in the Property Tax System

The Agricultural Appraisal Advisory Board provides local knowledge and guidance to the Chief Appraiser regarding the valuation and use of agriculture and timber land within the county.

Board members are local landowners whose property qualifies for agriculture or timber appraisal. Their experience helps the appraisal district better understand local agricultural practices, land uses, local productivity, and conditions that may affect agriculture properties in the county.

The Advisory Board serves in an advisory capacity and does not appraise individual property, determine property values, grant exemptions, or hear taxpayer protests. Under Texas Tax Code § 6.12, the board meets at the call of the Chief Appraiser at least once each year.
